While I absolutely disagree with book banning, I do believe that we have to be aware of the books out there and make wise decisions to what we read and to what we allow our children to read. Know yourself and know your boundaries. These are the two things you can do to assure that you get the most from your reading experience.
I am going to approach this subject from a parent’s view point, since I am just that, a parent. I am an extremely liberal reader and encourage my children to read anything and everything they can, become well rounded, and understand the differences in the world around them. That being said…I am completely aware of what they read and we often have very open discussions about reading. Generally, I have read anything and everything they are reading, and if not, I am probably going to read it. Reading is one of the most discussed topics in our house.
I believe it is my responsibility as a parent to know what my children are reading. I do not believe that the schools, libraries, or government should be held responsible for these choices. We are always looking for someone else to blame and honestly…parents need to take these responsibilities. See, while some might complain that their children can get a hold of questionable literature at public libraries, what happens if that book is banned and I, an adult, would like to read it? Should it be banned from me also? What if I believe that it is okay for my children to read these books? Is it right that they are unable to check this book out?
I do understand the worries about children getting ahold of books that are too mature for them…let’s put them in the correct school libraries. I honestly do not have a problem with school libraries picking and choosing the books that are available to kids. But public libraries are a completely different story…because they are public for both adults and children. Also, when it comes to school reading lists, I have found that most of the questionable books are optional and there are other choices for the children to choose from. If not, then yes it is certainly your right to voice your opinion about these things.
I live my life with a pretty simple rule…if you believe something is immoral or inappropriate then just don’t do it. Nobody should have to tell you it’s immoral…you have to know your own beliefs, your own limits, and follow them.
*Remember, these are solely my opinions and you can disagree, respectfully.
Now the fun Part...Contest!!!
The contest I am running will allow one lucky winner to receive their choice of a banned or challenged book from the Book Depository. Before you enter...make sure that they deliver to your place of residence.
Your choices are...
- Any book from The Hunger Games Trilogy (Suzanne Collins)
- Any book from The House of Nights Series (PC and Kristen Cast)
- Water for Elephants (I know...banned???) (Sara Gruen)
- Speak (Laurie Halse Anderson)
- TTYL(Lauren Myracle)
- Any book from the Vampire Academy Series (Richelle Mead)
- Any book from the Twilight Series (Stephenie Meyer)
I am participating because I love to read and I love books, I think they should be enjoyed for the stories they tell whether they are banned or not.
ReplyDeleteBecause I like to read different types of books, and I want to know which books had been banned or challenged.
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I love books. I don't think any book should be banned, regardless of its contents.
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I don't believe any books should be banned.
ReplyDeleteTo support banned books and because I love giveaways xD
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the chance to win♥
Thank you for this opportunity
ReplyDeleteI agree...I think parents and no one else should make decisions on behalf of their children. Great, honest post! Both Kathy and I really appreciate you being on the hop this year! Oh....I just say my blog button roll by on the right. You are down right awesome!
ReplyDeleteJen
I read books regardless of whether of not they're banned. I think everyone has the right to read what they would want to read.
ReplyDelete-Debbie W.
I'm participating in BBW because I fiercely disagree with censorship. I also agree with you: parents are the ones who need to make the decisions for their specific children- not their school board, not the gov't, not OTHER parents.
ReplyDeleteBekka
I participated because no book should be banned, we all have the choice to read or not read a book
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that I totally disagree with banning books. It is the responsibility of parents to decide what their children can and can not read. More parents need to get involved and if they are not sure about a book they need to read it themselves.
ReplyDeleteiarvd@yahoo.com
I'm participating because I love reading. I come from a country where the government has the power to ban books and I think this is inappropriate as I think readers (or parents of children) are the ones who should decide whether a book is suitable or not.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm participing because I think that it's parents choice whether the book is appropriate or not. I just check ALA's website and was suprised by the list of banned books (new - Twilight, Hunger Games, and also classics - The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm..) If the book is banned because it is unsuited to age group, in my opinion it would be better to mark this book with age limit and not to mark it as banned.
ReplyDeleteBut the worst example of banning books - political reasons - it's something that needs to be changed
Thanks for the giveaway!
I'm participating because I think people should be able to decide for themselves what is appropriate to read and what's not... And also this is a great chance to win some of those banned books... Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI participated because I think banning books is wrong and because I would like to win one of the banned books!! Many thanks, Ceri
ReplyDeleteI was reading Virginia Andrews at ten years old, and it never affected me growing up. I disagree with banning books, which is why I am participating :)
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I love to read!
ReplyDeleteIm participating because i think banning books is WRONG, and everyone should have the freedom to read whatever they want. If they dont feel its right for them, simply, just dont read it. Im also participating because i would LOVE to win one of these amazing books! Thanks for this lovely giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI read banned books because I find that they are usually the most fruitful. They are the most daring and personally, I find them the most enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteBecause it's a lot of fun! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also against banned books. I feel parents need to be more involved in their child's reading and have discussions with them about the books.
ReplyDeletewow when i went to school they were on the required list to read, thanks for having this tour.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAngela
I'm participating because I LOVE to read and I don't think, that any books should be banned.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! ;)
~ Andrea K.
thanks for this international giveaway
ReplyDeleteOh i forgot sorry: why i participate... i participate because i love reading and never my parents told me i couldn't read something. They helped me sometimes but i could always choose ( like lord of the rings at 6years old^^)so i don't think banned book are a solution. Giveaway are also a way to go again banned book because it's a way to get books for people who don't necesseraly have the budget for it or can't find them easily
ReplyDeleteso a big thanks you
I join this hop, because, I want to find out more about banned books,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read them first, you know?
Find out, all the fuss for it's being banned.
=)
I love books, that's why I love these blog hops. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the oportunity to learn more about great books!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway ! It's always so great to find new books to read, so this hop is just perfect !
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I'm participating because taking something away is not the answer to fixing a problem.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I am participating because I love to read and it's always great to find out about more books. Plus many of the reasons that books have been censored are ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI am participating in Banned Books Week by reading Banned Books all week long. We have giveaway and a big contest going on at Book Journey too. I am also promoting the Blog Hop.
ReplyDeletethanks!! :)
ReplyDeleteBecause I read what I want...what I feel like reading and won't be put off just bec it's banned or challenged. Several of these books...man I don't even know WHY they're on the list.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway!
Thanks :-)
Sasse (_yay_)
I'm participating in this hop, because I love giveaways, and I don't like to be told which books I shouldn't read. Most of my favorite books have been banned somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAlas, to snag books, books and hopefully more books. I seem to have a liking for 'em :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :)
Thank you so much for the giveaway! I'm not participating, but hopping around. I live in Sweden, so banned books is not a problem I've grown up with, but I think it's a very interesting subject. I do think parents should be aware of what their kids read, but I don't like the banning thing. I won't give a long comment though, so I'll leave it there. Thanks again. :)
ReplyDeleteI am participating because a bunch of books on my wish list are part of the banned list and what is the one thing better than a book? A free book! Thank you for taking part in the hop and for the awesome giveaway :)
ReplyDeletei am participating because i love to break taboos and if someone tells me NOT to read a book for whatever reason, than i am even more curious. i think everyone should make his own choices. so banning a book is in my opinion the most stupid idea. i think they should just be rated accordingly like films. so everyone knows what they are getting.
ReplyDeletei am getting off topic here ;) i am participating because those are awesome books and i want to know WHY they were banned.
I am participating because I love to read and think that everyone should have the freedom to read whatever they want.
ReplyDeletejmesparza821(at)gmail(dot)com
Honestly, I'm participating in the blog hop mostly just to see what books have been banned. I never knew The Hunger Games or even Harry Potter had been banned before! That's nuts and makes me sad :( I'd also love to win one so I can read it and then spread the word about how awesome it is :) [even tho it may be banned].
ReplyDeleteNot only is it fun to participate but I also think banning books is horrible! People should be allowed to read whatever they want! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I can't belive all the book that are banned for the most ridiculious reasons. People need to make an informed decision on what to read and not been told what you can or can not read.
ReplyDeletePeople need break their taboos and start thinking outside the box!
I am taking part in this because I do not believe in banning books. Sure there are books that kids should not read but that is the parents right and decision. Some of these books on the list are crazy.
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because the books you listed sounds really good and would like to have the chance to actually read them and not let someone else decide for me what is correct to read. Each person has an individual mind an personality to chose.
ReplyDeleteMost of my top 10 favorite books are banned or have been challenged somewhere. It's ridiculous how people try to force their viewpoints on others. On a side note, I had no idea Water for Elephants was banned. WTH?! That's totally weird.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's a great opportunity to know nem books!
ReplyDeleteAna, it is definitely a way to learn about new books. There are so many out there~
ReplyDeleteChristine, I agree! Well said!
ReplyDeleteRight, when I saw Water for Elephants, I had to add it to my list! Apparently it is too sexually explicit! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeletePedro, I definitely believe a person should form their own opinion! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI personally love the outside of the box! :) Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYes they should! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteA rebellion after my own heart :) Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteJuana, I agree! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteLori, I completely agree with you! It is a family activity at my house too. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYTO, I agree. I am a rebellion in the same way. Tell me not to do something and I will. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteExcellent point. Free books are awesome! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteRebecca, I appreciate any comment, long or short. :). And I completely agree with you about banning. Parents need to make decisions. Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteRad, I know the feeling! I could use all the free books I can get. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite books are always the banned ones. LOL! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteSasse, I have read on why most of them are banned and it's either violence, religious views, or sex. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteOhhh...I will be stopping by! Thanks for hopping by here!
ReplyDeleteYes, many of the reasons are definitely ridiculous! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteYou are right...I tend to believe most people do exactly what you tell them not too. And the more people know, the more they will understand those around them. Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteI love finding new books. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteGreat reason! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteNice simple answer! I love books too! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, because I think banning books has the complete opposite effect. It makes people want to read them more! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI don't like people telling other people what they can read and what the can't.
ReplyDeleteon the form I put my GFC nick name as RONYKA and is RONYKA7, i forgget to put the 7
Perfect answer! I agree! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAndie, I don't believe books should be banned either. You are very welcome for the giveaway! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteMy mom was an English teacher and I know she had a few "banned" books on her lists as optional reading. One parent through a fit! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI think the answer to a lot of problems is parent involvement! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI agree! It is fun! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Usually books are banned for a sensitive reason and I enjoy reading about that kind of thing. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI agree...if you don't believe in it...don't do it! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteLoving to read is a great reason. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading since I was little too. I think it has had a positive effect on my life. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I hope you win something good. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeletePeople should definitely make their own decisions. We rely on other peoples opinions too much! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI think rating books would be an excellent idea. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYen, I agree with you! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYes we do and this is a great way to take a stand. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI love you Bekka! :) I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I completely agree with you! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteJen, when I saw your button a while back, I had to have it and I couldn't resist following anyone who's blog name is I Read Banned Books. Thanks for hosting this hop! It's only the first day and it is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteBoth your reasons are great! I love giveaways too!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, thank you for this well thought out argument. I could not agree with you more. People tend to dislike what they do not understand...reading and learning is one way to understand different points of views. Excellent answer! Thanks so much for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The world is changing every day and whether we like it or not...we have to accept it. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThis hop is a great way to learn about those books. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteTwo excellent reasons to participate! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI don't like people telling me what I can and can't do either. I usually do the complete opposite! Thanks for stopping by and no problem on the GFC name! I forget mine all the time!
ReplyDeleteSo call me silly, but I didn't know half of these books were banned! I 'm going blog to blog and it's very educating! :)
ReplyDeleteI think that the books that are most often banned or challenged are the ones that have the power to make us think and therefore are first steps to making changes, both within ourselves and society. Like I stated in my own blog post about banning books, an attempt to control what a society reads is an attempt to control how a society thinks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful giveaway!
Donna @ The Happy Booker
Donna, beautifully worded! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteAmber, I didn't either until I joined this hop...so I don't think you are silly! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I like reading about difficult subjects. I think the more we know about them, the better we might be able to handle them. Thanks for the giveaway :]
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway:)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your views regarding the banning of books. I'm lucky to have had a very liberal-minded mother who never stopped me from reading anything I pleased (except for romance novels until I reached the appropriate age). I like reading all kinds of books, even the ones that deal with highly taboo subjects in my community, because I believe that any knowledge, be it good or bad, can benefit a person in some way.
Sarah @ Random Thoughts of a Confused Adolescent
I'm participating because I love books (all kinds) and it's absurd that any book would be banned or challenged. I don't think censorship does anyone any good. Don't read/watch/listen if it bothers you so much or talk to your children about why you think it's wrong; don't hide things. Thank you for participating in the hop! It's fun going through and reading everyone's favorite banned/challenged books!
ReplyDeleteI am participating because I love books and I feel like this is a way to read books dangerously LOL
ReplyDeleteA girl after my own heart! I do a lot of things dangerously! LOL! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAshley, I am lucky in that I have never had anyone tell my children anything terrible about books. Harry Potter has been in my house for so many years and I never remember reading that the wizards were from Hell! LMAO! However, my mom was an English teacher in a very small town and one of the student's parents would absolutely not let them read The Animal Farm and mom had to come up with a different assignment!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! I completely agree! Thanks for stopping by!
My thoughts exactly! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had such a great mom! I think it is important to read everything you can get your hands on! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with you! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway. Truly appreciate the opportunity to win. I would like TTYL.
ReplyDeleteHere's Mine: Read Banned Books Week Hop and Giveaway
Thank you for participating!
ReplyDeleteBeing able to participate feels like I'm getting the word out about banned books and how great they really are.
I'm participating because I love books! This is a fun giveaway hop to see other people's book blogs.
ReplyDeleteI am hosting a giveaway in the Banned Books Giveaway Hop as well. I think we all should have a right to choose for ourselves, and I don't agree with books being banned because of one person's opinion! And now I'm hopping through to visit other people's giveaways!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your giveaway!
I'm participating because I love to read. And I love all types of books. I didn't even realize some of the books that I've read were banned. And I don't agree with it. I think people should be able to make up their own minds on what is appropriate for themselves to read and what is not.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance-- I am participating because everyone should have the freedom to read whatever they like. Rae
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because no one has the right to tell me what I can or can't read (& also for the amazing prizes).
ReplyDeletemarypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com
Thanks for giveaway!! I love hops and i love books.
ReplyDeleteJudy
magnolias_1[at]msn[dot]com
I'm participating because I believe readers should have the freedom to choose what they want to read. (Also because I'm really hoping to win Speak). Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like free books!
ReplyDeleteBecause it is a great way to find out about and spread the word about some great books!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I find it kind of ridiculous that they still ban books.
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I think reading and reading about what you want is one of the backbones of society and education
ReplyDeleteinsanityisnormal(at)gmail(dot)com
I'm participating in the Banned Books Giveaway because I LOVE books and I LOVE to read. I've found that controversial books are usually the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this giveaway and for being a part of the Banned Books Week Hop!!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe and great weekend!! =)
GFC Follower: SpadesHighReads
I love to read and win new books!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway and for bringing attention to banned books! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Thanks for hopping through!
ReplyDeleteNo doubt! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because I think it's vital that freedom of expression is protected. Censorship breeds ignorance.
ReplyDeleteYes they do! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by! I went and signed up for your giveaway! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for wanting to spread the word. It is truly appreciated! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteMe Too! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to win Speak also! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThey are lots of fun! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAhh..prizes! Gotta love those! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI was amazed when I looked at the list of banned and challenged books also! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteSo true! I am trying to hop through everyone's so I hope to find you soon! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI have found some really neat blogs! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThanks for spreading the word and for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your post and I completely agree. It takes all self-will and choice away from human beings to ban books - very dystopian. I participate because I love to support banned books.
ReplyDeleteI entered the Banned Books Week Hop because I LOVE books and to read
ReplyDeleteI love reading books, regardless of their label (banned / not banned), as long as they convey a positive message or provoke the reader's thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI am curious with Speak and TTYL. I hope I can get the chance to read it. Thank for the chance :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the awesome giveaway. To answer your question, I am participating in this blog hop because I enjoy finding new blogs to favorite., learning about new books and hopefully winning a new book to read with the possibility of adopting a new favorite author or series. I also think banning books is really tragic. The libraries and such that do the banning should better watch instead who is checking out what book and that its appropriate instead of preventing others from reading what they want.
ReplyDeleteLadyVampire2u AT gmail DOT com
Thank you for the giveaway. It's good that Banned Book Week is getting so much awareness. As a reader, nothing bugs me more than someone telling me what I can or cannot read.
ReplyDeleteMy email is lostwanderer5 [at] gmail [dot] com
Thanks you for the chance to win a book! I joined the hop because I love the idea of banned books, although I don't really understand why some of them were banned :)
ReplyDelete<3
I would love to win a book.
ReplyDeletegardnerad@juno.com
I am participating in this hop because I support the cause that we have the freedom to read what we want!
ReplyDeleteJanhvi
justjanhvi at gmail dot com
Thank you for supporting the cause!
ReplyDeleteMe too! :)! Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYes, very dystopian. Thanks for the kind words!
ReplyDeletePrecisely! Thanks for hopping by!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because Banned Books Week is one of my favorite yearly events, even though it always sneaks up on me. I love what it stands for and how the community comes together to support it.
ReplyDeleteI am particpating in Banned Week, because I want to show awareness of all the banned books that are out there. Books are important, you can learn a lot from them, and although I agree that there is a time and age for the content of books, books are there for us to learn something new, and banning them is not the way to go.
ReplyDeleteAdrianna A.
adri_love@sbcglobal.net
I'm participating in Banned Week because I think it's important to spread the message that everyone has the freedom to read what they choose to.
ReplyDeletethanks for the amazing giveaway!
I am participating because I love blog hops...especially book ones.
ReplyDeletejenhedger at hotmail dot com
I really don't know why some of these books have been banned. We'd definitely be missing out without them!
ReplyDeletek_anon[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk
I am participating in this hope because I think it's showing awareness to the books that are banned(:
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm participating because I love to read, and winning contests are always fun. I suppose Banned Book Week because there are many wonderful books with a great message on those lists, and I feel like their message needs to be released.
ReplyDelete* support, not suppose
ReplyDeleteYou've got an awesome list of books to choose from. I love The Hunger Games!!!
ReplyDeleteBooks ARE my life and I am NOT going to let some people tell me i can't read books! Anyway I have read some on the list and who cares? The world didn't end did it? Never giving up on reading books!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for supporting banned books! They should not be banned in the first place!
Thanks for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! =)
ReplyDeleteBooks should not be banned! we should spread the joy of reading every chance we get!
ReplyDeleteBooks are the most important thing in my life after my family and I can't imagine being told what I can and can't read.
ReplyDeleteI do think that parents have a right to oversee and decide for their children what is appropriate.
For some reason the comment box is missing! So I'll put my comment here (sorry in advance)... I like giveaway hops coz I discover new authors :)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love books and I really enjoyed reading most of them in banned list. They shouldn't be banned but I think that it would be better if it was created some age barrier just like in movies. Plus I'm also participating because I also like Giveaways lol
ReplyDelete@Tibiux
I am participating cause getting the word out and supporting banned books is vital I beleive in our rights as readers! Besides who doesn't love a great blog and giveaway:)
ReplyDeleteI'm participating in BBW because I disagree in banned books its wrong! Thank you for taking part in this great blog hop!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating in BBW because we should be the judge of what we read. I've read plenty of banned books and you know what? They're AMAZING. Why should someone other than ourselves decide what should be banned and what shouldn't?
ReplyDeletePLUS - Vampire Academy and Hunger Games as well as Twenty Boy Summer are part of my favourites
I am participating because I think we are free to decide what we will read for ourselves. This is an important cause for sure!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Thank you for the invite! =) I understand that not all books are suitable for every age group. I agree with you, parents should take responsibility too. There are reasons why a certain book has specific audiences, we readers should be responsible enough in choosing what books to read, but I don't think banning a book will really solve any issues about it.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great selection of books and an unfortunate selection of books too! Thanks for shining a light on banned books week!
ReplyDeleteHeather
Should have clicked for instructions first- I'm participating b/c I think all books should be available to everyone. It should be up to parents individually to decide if their children should read certain books. If we take them out of public libraries, then we take them away from everyone. We are making a decision for other people's children as well as our own.
ReplyDeleteHeather
I'm participating because I think people, especially teens, have the right to choose what books they want to read, whether they are banned or not. It's important that there's a conversation after reading a banned book, so issues, ideas, and whatnot can be discussed and exchanged :)
ReplyDeleteI'm participating in the hop because I believe in our right to write and read about all things freely!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating in the hop, for the love of books, all books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm participating because no one has the right to tell me what I can and cannot read.
I'm participating because I believe that all books should be made available to everyone. Parents should be the ones to decide what is right for their children until they feel their child has reached a mature enough level. But I don't think the government, schools, or libraries should be able to ban books and prevent people from reading them.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! :)
<3
Taylor
I read all books. Banning a book makes readers want to read it even more.
ReplyDeleteI've always found banned or challenged books interesting. It's also interesting finding out which books have been banned/challenged, since I don't always realize what popular books have been.
ReplyDeleteYay for banned books! Thanks for this awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am participating on the hop because ever since I found out about BBW (must've been about 5-6 years ago) I've felt that it's important to draw attention to those books that some people may find objectionable or controversial, but others might find daring and unconventional (and there are some very excellent books among the challenged books list).
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!
Thank you for the giveaway. I am excited to have found your blog!
ReplyDeleteSame for me. I am participating in this hop because I love books and banning them won't stop me from reading them. In fact it adds a sense of intrigue to the book. Plus the freedom to read as we please is just as important as the freedom of speech!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post and contribution to the hop. Thanks for the awesomeness!
Thanks for the giveaway!!! I'm participating in the hop because I don't believe in books being banned or challenge in my opinion if you don't like it don't read it but don't ruin it for others!!
ReplyDeleteI love to read and a lot of the books that get banned shouldn't be.
ReplyDeleteI am entering because I would love to win a banned book and I like to support fellow book blogs. I didn't feel I would be able to participate in this one--I have loads of giveaways coming up, and I decided to sit this one out. Looking forward to the next one.
ReplyDelete
