I have read To Kill a Mockingbird. I had no idea this was banned...Crazy!!!! I absolutely loved Scout!!!
ReplyDeleteI read To Kill A Mockingbird and Brave New World. Definitely don't agree with banning books and thought both books were very worthwhile reads and would recommend for young tween to teen readers.
ReplyDeleteI've read To Kill a Mockingbird and the Hunger Games trilogy. I had no idea they were banned or challenged. My opinion of those books were that they taught morals and that they make people think.
ReplyDeleteI haven't paid too much attention to whether a book has been banned or not since leaving highschool; the teachers were always keen to point out that the assigned reading was no longer banned or that they were flying in the face of conservatism by assigning the book.
ReplyDeleteIn general though, I find banned books to be more thought provoking, like Brave New World or Alexie Sherman's works, and I do like me a good think.
I've read the Hunger Games and loved them. I read To Kill A Mockingbird. I hated it.
ReplyDeleteI've read only about 10% of the books in the Top 100 Banned/Challenged Books: 2000-2009 list.
ReplyDeleteI read several of them: Harry Potter, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Color Purple, Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, Flowers for Algernon, The Great Gatsby...
ReplyDeleteI read them not because they're banned (I did not quite following the banned books very seriously), but because I wanted to read them.
I think, as adult reader, the banned aspects are significant with the topic, and despite of those aspects, the books taught me more moral value.
The Hunger Games, To Kill a Mockingbird, and many many more. I was not aware when I had read them that they were banned/challenged books. Though I have recently learned that most of the books I've read have been challenged at some point lol. So far I have enjoyed the majority of them.
ReplyDeleteI've read The Hunger Games trilogy, Harry Potter series & The Twilight Saga, but I never knew they were banned until today. I am shocked. I love all 3 series & I don't understand why they would be banned, they are amazing. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've read To Kill A Mockingbird, Harry Potter series and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. They're all books I've enjoyed. :) I'm pretty sure I've read more though at that time I didn't know they were banned/challenged books.
ReplyDeleteI remember in Middle school that there was this big announcement that the Harry Potter books were going to pulled from the library permentally. I had heard of HP but never really looked into it. This was before the movie came out. My parents were upset about it and talked about it a couple of times. So after all the hooplah I decided to read the first book. I LOVE IT and since then I have been a hard core HP fan!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know To Kill A mockingbird was banned, wow, the book was awesome in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of the books on the top 100 banned list, including no. 1 the Harry Potter series. I heard about all the controversy surrounding this series, like the books are promoting witchcraft, satanism and what not. I think most of the anti-HP people have never read them or watched the movies, maybe only seen some pics of Voldemort and then they're like "OMG, let nobody read this!" And nothing you say will make them see why we love the HP series so much. My dad's one of those "Harry Potter is satanic" people.. and yes, he hasn't read any of the books:)
ReplyDeleteAnd I think trying to ban a book actually makes more people read it:) I'm certainly curious about why some of the books on the list are banned.
Some of those banned books are really good, like To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games, Nineteen-Eighty Four. I have read all 4 of them and I say that people who ban those definitely didn't read them first. Some of those books have more good values than bad.
ReplyDeleteI have read lot of of the banned books, some of my favorite being Speak, Go Ask Alice, and Fahrenheit 451. I did not know Speak and Go Ask Alice were banned, I did know about Fahrenheit 451. All three are absolutely wonderful, I would recommend them to everyone.
ReplyDeletei've read hunkelberry fin, tom sawyer and harry potter i didn't know they were banned book and i still can't understand why
ReplyDeleteI loved 'forever' by judy blume when I read it as a teen. I can see why it was banned though! I did think it was pretty funny when I read it, but I can see why people might be offended at teens naming boys naughty bits!
ReplyDeleteI have read Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, twilight and Scars. I didn't know they were banned when I read them.
ReplyDeleteI have read Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Twilight. Well, I did not know they were banned when I read them.
ReplyDeleteI love Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, the first books that made me want to read fantasies and other dystopian books
but don't really like Twilight
I've read some HP books but didn't really know that they were banned. ;) Anyway, I loved them :D - Ara
ReplyDeleteChristina K. in the rafflecopter
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter which I LOVED and I can't believed they were banned. Also lots of issue YA is banned which is awful because it's so necessary for lots of people to read.
Thank you:)
I have read The Hunger Games and Twilight but I didn't know they were banned. I don't really pay attention to whether a book is banned or not. If I want to read it I read it. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI read The Hunger Games books and Twilight series and I loved them all! I don't even understand why are they banned. I didn't even know they were when I was reading them.
ReplyDeleteI read the Twilight series, and I had no idea they were banned! I loved the whole series. I also read the first book in Harry Potter and loved it and was surprised to see that it was also banned.
ReplyDeleteI've read the Hunger Games and To Kill a Mockingbird and I did't know they were banned! I liked them both.

ReplyDeleteApparently, I've read lots and didn't know they were banned. I loved them all. The Hunger Games, To Kill A Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, Snow Falling On Cedars, Twilight, The Giver...and more!
ReplyDeleteI've read a few, not knowing they were banned at the time. The Hunger Games is my favorite, I love that series!
ReplyDeletei've read the harry potter series and found it absolutely funny when i found out that it's a banned book. some people have really issues.
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games. It is one of my favorite book series ever and I notice other books on the list that really surprise me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI read all the HP books, all the HG books and Twilight, Catcher in the Rye, I know why the Caged Bird sings and so many more. I didn't know they were banned and I loved them all. I actually never really understand the whole banning books thing. LOL
ReplyDeleteFrom your list, I read and loved Harry Potter books, Hunger Games and To Kill a Mockingbird. I also read the first two books in Gossip Girl series, but I didn't really enjoy them. I didn't know Harry Potter was banned when I first started reading it. I knew that others were, but that just made me more curious.
ReplyDeleteI have read quite on few that are on the list The Hunger Games, Twilight, To Kill on a Mockingbird, Twilight, The Bible, Slaughterhouse Five and many others, as far as them being banned They are for different reasons rascism language sexual situations violence. The more that people try to ban them I find I want to read them.
ReplyDeleteI read and loved all harry potter book, hunger games, Speak and The Giver. I didn't know they were banned!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea the HP books were banned, I did personally like to read them.
ReplyDeleteI have read several of these books. Hunger Games, Speak, Harry Potter and more. I really enjoy them and think no book should be banned.
ReplyDeleteI read and loved the Hunger Games trilogy. I didn't know they were banned when I read them but I would have read them anyway! Thanks for this amazing giveaway - I would love to win!
ReplyDeleteSuz Reads
I've read a lot of the books on the list. I didn't know Harry Potter was on the list, but was not surprised to see it. We had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in freshman English. I loved that book. I make the choices of what my children read and if its age appropriate, I will encourage them to read books that make them think. I don't support the challenged or banned book list at all.
ReplyDeleteplw1075@yahoo.com
Hi! I have read many many banned books because I was growing up in a society where thousands of books were prohibited due to the political system. You could be sent to prison reading "wrong literature", so I read few of these books when the system changed. Honestly, I did not understand why they were prohibited, except for pure political reasons.
ReplyDeletethe hunger games, to kill a mocking bird, harry potter! I didn't know any of these had been banned! I love harry potter the other two not so much!
ReplyDeleteI have read quite a few banned books and never realized until now that they were banned books. I saw nothing wrong with them. Thanks for the hop!
ReplyDeleteBecause so many of the great books have been banned or challenged, I've read just tons of them. Authors including Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. the list just goes on. I'm sure if it had occurred to me at the time that they had been banned or challenged it would have made no difference to me.
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of banned books, and in fact my favorite book is one. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an amazing read. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe To Kill A Mockingbird in banned for racism... it's against the whole point of the story. I read and loved that one as well as the Harry Potter series and several others that I don't understand by they would be challenged.
ReplyDeleteI read the Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger and knew it was banned before. I absolutely loveeed it!
ReplyDeleteI read The Hunger Games trilogy The HP series and few of the other books. It is amazing to see these books on the banned book list.
ReplyDeleteIt never seems to fail that people don't take responsibility for themselves so they make these kinds of list. If you teach your children right from wrong, they will under stand that when they pick up a wand they can not go around zapping people with it. They will also understand that they will not be picked from there district to fight to live. Just Saying.....
Out of the 2011 top 10 I have read The Hungry Games, To Kill a Mockingbird and Brave New Word. I actually can't believe some of the books that get challenged.
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of them Twilight, Hunger Games and Harry potter are just a few and personally I love reading banned books!
ReplyDeleteI've read Twilight, The Hunger Games, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Catcher in the Rye, Speak, A Separate Peace, Charlotte's Web, etc...
ReplyDeleteLoved all of these books!
Thanks,
Leanne
Just to name one, I've read Crank by Ellen Hopkins. I absolutely loved it. I know most of her books have been or will be challenged because of the delicate topics that she covers.
ReplyDeleteI've read Harry Potter series and I've known they were challenged because the Church already acused it of being maleficent/satanic! But i did not know something similar had happened to the Twilight series...I've also recently read "Fahrenheit 451" which is a short book, but has some good critics about our society!
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of Banned Books like Harry Potter and The Giver, and wasn't aware that they were banned. When I found out that they were, I was clueless to what would be the basis. Because seriously, what?!
ReplyDeleteI read THE COLOR PURPLE not knowing it was banned.
ReplyDeleteMary P
ive read the hg trilogy, tkam, the perks of being a wallflower, the catcher in the rye and a few more. I didnt actually know any of them were challenged or banned books. But the books ive read from the list, i reckon are all pretty good :)
ReplyDeleteI've read Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, I'm not sure if I've read any others though, but I didn't know they were banned books.
ReplyDeleteThe main ones I know of are Harry Potter, The Huger Games, Perks, The catcher in the Rye, How to Kill a Mockingbird and Alice in wonderland- I didn't know any of them were banned until after, with the exception of Alice.
ReplyDeleteI've read Harry Potter and The Hunger Games series and The perks of being a wallflower. All of them were amazing books and I loved them
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI've read The Hunger Games (which I loved, but obviously thought a bit violent), To Kill A Mockingbird (which I loved again, and guessed was challenged at some point or another), Twilight (which I disliked but purely for stylistic reasons), My Sister's Keeper, The Kite Runner, Bridge to Terabithia and quite a few others. Didn't actually realise so many of them were challenged!
I read To Kill a Mockingbird. That should not be challenged, it is extremely realistsic.
ReplyDeleteI also read Wht My Mother Doesn't Know and I don't remember anything bad in that.
I've read both the Harry Potter series and Hunger Games trilogy... Both were absolutely amazing. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have read several of the banned books and can see why some idiot would want some of them banned but what the heck is wrong with the Twilight Saga or Harry Potter. These are just great YA books. Hunger games is great but I can see where some people would complain about the violence.
ReplyDeleteGG series. And NO I didn't know about it being banned!
ReplyDeleteI have read Hunger games and gossip girl and I loved them!! thanks for this giveaway
ReplyDeleteThe Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, Hunger Games, Twilight, Harry Potter, and probably many more. I am not sure when these became banned books because To Kill a Mockingbird and the Great Gatsby were required reading in school for me. I was shocked to see they were banned! I wonder what else I've read that has been banned! lol
ReplyDeleteIn the USA, most books are "challenged" and not banned outright. The actual "banning" comes from school or public libraries losing out to certain challenges and having them removed from their inventory. A ton of the classics are amongst the "challenged or banned" lists for various reasons. My mom taught high school English and had to make an alternate assignment for someone because their parents refused to let him/her read Animal Farm. I'm always amazed to see the books on the lists every year.
DeleteI've read tons, but the most recent is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I knew it had been banned a lot, but I read it because it looked like an amazing book. I've been reading a lot of books lately that deal with tough teen issues, and I'm pretty sure most of them have been banned or challenged (Crank, Girl Interrupted, 13 Reasons Why, etc.).

Sarcasm & Lemons
I've read that manhwa series you mentioned, The Color of Earth (series), by Kim Dong Hwa. No, I did not know that it was banned till now. I absolutely loved that series.
ReplyDeleteI've also read the first 5 of the Harry Potter books. Also did not know they were banned.
Well, on your list I read TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteZara Alexis
I've read many including The Pillars of the Earth and I really enjoyed that book!
ReplyDeleteTo Kill A Mockingbird, loved it and still love it. and also blume's forever and are you there god, it's me margaret, which i really liked and had deep impact on me
ReplyDeleteI have read a range of challenged or banned books including the Harry Potter series, the twilight series and to kill a mockingbird. At them time I didnt know they where challenged or banned. I liked them all :)
ReplyDeleteMegan McDade
I've read and loved the Harry Potter series, I didn't know they were banned when I read them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :)
I've read the To Kill a Mockingbird, the Harry Potter series, and His Dark Materials. I knew the first two were banned~ but, somehow I didn't know His Dark Materials was, of course, I can see why with the themes in it. But~ I adore those books! The Golden Compass is amazing~
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games series. I already knew they were banned when I decided to read them. I could understand they were banned, though. I mean the books portrays some pretty horrific scenes which might be unsuitable for young readers but as a mature reader I find them suitable to my taste.
ReplyDeletei read harry potter and twilight series, and i don't know that the books was banned, but if i know that books was banned, i will keep read it.
ReplyDeletethe hunger games...still don't know why it was banned...but i think tha's a really good book...
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games, but I didn`t know it was banned and I wouldn`t have cared if I knew :D
ReplyDeleteI'm proud to say that I've read so many of the Banned Books on the list. I reread To Kill a Mockingbird this summer for pleasure, and I was happy to say that it was just as beautiful as I remembered.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite books are banned! Some I knew were banned and others I didn't. I had to read To Kill a Mockingbird for school, for instance and I didn't know it was banned at the time. Some of my favorites are Looking for Alaska and Fahrenheit 451 and I didn't know they were banned either but both I'd recommend to anyone in an instant.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of a book that was banned that I knew was banned when I was reading it was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I read the second half of that while sitting in a B&N and a little old lady came up to me and told me I shouldn't read it because it was about witchcraft and the devil. I told her she was crazy or something like that and told her it was an awesome book.
Kristen...I love the reasons people think books should be banned. I think Harry Potter is one of my favorites. If it's filled with witchcraft and evil, then so is Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and all the other Disney classics that have magic in them. Oh, the world we live in.
DeleteI much more likely to read something because it is banned! I'm a rebel like that.
~Kristin
Well if Harry potter books are on the list, then that one, which is dumb, and I know I will Like Hunger Games, and will read soon, I seen the movie, and liked it, and I know the books are always better.
ReplyDelete(In fact I do not own hunger games yet, so hope I win)
its dumb that these books are banned (Will we not be able to buy them anymore? how does that work)
Michelle,
DeleteIn the USA, you can buy the books, regardless of banned or challenged status. It is only in some public libraries and school libraries that the books are banned from.
Harry Potter has been challenged because people say it's filled with witchcraft and deviltry and the Hunger Games tend to be a bit violent and morbid...but excellent all the same.
~Kristin
I read The Hunger Games without knowing it was banned but I suppose it kind of make sense it is banned now that I think about it. Because it's different and there's always someone who think that anything that's different it is somehow bad too. It's a retrograde way of seeing the world.
ReplyDeleteHave read banned books.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the amazing book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.
It sure tells about that time in history..
Thanks, for the list will check them out too.
On this list I've read The Hunger Games series, Gossip Girl, & To Kill a Mockingbird. I didn't know they were banned but then again I don't care about that. If I like a book I like it no matter what others say.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome giveaway!
cassandrahicks1989@yahoo.com
I completely agree Cassandra. People should make their own decisions, not depend on others to tell them what to like and why.
DeleteI read Brave New World in high school. I had no idea it had been banned.
ReplyDeletex
I've read a lot of them - Twilight, Hunger Games, The Outsiders, all the Harry Potters, and on. I am shocked that required reading in HS To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the top ten banned books.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many that I have read that I didn't know were challenged or banned. The most ridiculous I think, would have to be The Harry Potter Series! Seriously?! It's a made up world and yeah, it may have some evil and witchcraft, but it also brings soo many positive aspects, such as friendship dynamics, adventure etc. that any person would be lucky to read!
ReplyDeleteI've read quite a few of the banned books although the only one I read and knew it was banned at the time was Harry Potter which of course is completely absurd. The Harry Potter books are by far one of my favorite series. :)
ReplyDeleteto kill a mockingbird. I didnt know it was banned I had to read it in school LOL
ReplyDeleteI read To Kill a Mockingbird when I was in high school and loved it! I can't believe it has been banned.
ReplyDeleteI've read The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, Twilight, Harry Potter, and some others that I can't think of :)
ReplyDeleteI have read to kill a mockingbird, harry potter, lord of the flies, twilight, hunger games and many more. They were not banned before
ReplyDeleteA lot of the 'classic' banned books were on my high school required reading lists - so I definitely have never thought of them as banned before.
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter and hunger games, and I did not know
ReplyDeleteI've read Harry Potter. I knew it had been challenged ... a lot. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Some of my favorite reads have been a part of this list... To Kill a Mocking Bird was required reading when I was coming up, and is still required today. I also enjoy all of Ray Bradbury's works. Reading them as a teen, I had no idea that they were a part of the list!

I read the Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games Trilogy. This books are one of my favorite. I didn't know that they were banned or challenged until now.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've read quite a lot of "banned" books: Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies etc. . I liked them, and I had no idea that they had been banned....
ReplyDeleteI've read a few banned books:
ReplyDelete. Blubber
. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
. Are You There God? It's Me Margaret.
I did not know they were banned when I read them. If I knew, I'd be even more inclined to read them.
I've read the Hunger Games, enjoyed it and would love to finish the series.
ReplyDeleteI have read three of the ten listed, as well as Harry Potter and more. I don't necessarily seek out books that are banned, but I do like to read them to see why.
ReplyDeleteI've read quite a few: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, To Kill a Mockingbird, Huckleberry Finn, Brave New World. I knew some were banned or challenged, but not all of them.
ReplyDeleteI've read To Kill A Mockingbird and I read it in school, must have been before it was banned. I've also read The Hunger Games, and Harry Potter, though I was schocked when I heard that was banned
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter and Huckleberry Finn. But no, I didn't know they're banned or challenged. I like those titles, kinda grew up with them and I was surprised to know they're banned.
ReplyDeleteI read Hunger Games because I won it during last year's giveaway, so yes, I knew it was banned, and it is one of my favorite books!
ReplyDeleteI have read The Hunger Games and The Twilight series and I just loved them :)
ReplyDelete
