{Teaser Tuesday} Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Title: Along for the Ride
Author: Sarah Dessen
Publisher: Penguin
Imprint: Viking Juvenile
Release Date: June 1, 2009'

Synopsis:

It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.

A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

In her signature pitch-perfect style, Sarah Dessen explores the hearts of two lonely people learning to connect

This is the first Sarah Dessen I have read and I love it so so so much! Thank you April David for such an awesome suggestion. And I'm going to have so much gushing about this book when I'm done, the review is going to take pages. LOL.

My Teaser #1: It was a split second decision, the kind you hear about people making in the most dangerous or serious of situations. This was really neither, but I still was not thinking, just doing, as I reached my hand into the beans, scooping out a big gob with my fingers. Then, before I could reconsider, I turned and launched it at Eli.

My Teaser #2: I smiled, and then, in the middle of Tallyho, in the middle of the night, in the middle of everything, Eli kissed me. It was not at all how I'd imagined it happening, and yet totally perfect anyway.

  4. "Smash Cut" by Sandra Brown
Synopsis: When millionaire Paul Wheeler is murdered, his family retains renowned lawyer Derek Mitchell to defend the victim's nephew Creighton-although the police have not charged the young man with the crime. Wheeler's mistress, Julie Rutledge, who is also a suspect, believes that Creighton is the killer, despite his rock-solid alibi, and she'll do almost anything in her quest to prove his guilt-even ruin Derek's career. But the more Derek learns of Creighton's darker side, especially his bizarre fascination with movie murders, the more he comes believe Julie is right. The clock ticks down to a shocking ending as Derek and Julie join forces to find the truth. Has Creighton begun reenacting cinema's goriest scenes? And who will be his unwilling costarts? They won't know until the final SMASH CUT.
T#1-He left her to answer the door. She followed. The uniformed patrol officers looked awfully young and terribly rigid, as though they'd just graduated fromt he academy and had to overcompensate for their inexperience by being stiff-lipped and tense.
T#2-Derek dropped the nonsense and came to his feet. "If Julie Rutledge starts calling you in the middle of the night issuing death threats, or begins sending you dire messages through the mail, or boils a bunny in your spaghetti pot..." He paused, waiting for Creighton to comment. When he didn't, he said, "That was a movie reference."
