Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

My biggest pet peeve? Hmmm. The one thing I cannot stand is when the characters are completely unbelievable. I don't need a huge back-story but I do need enough to believe they are what the author claims them to be. Pulling magic tricks from the air without any reference to witches or anything magical...not buying it. Normal person turns into a were____ and there is never a mention of why, how, or any other mystical being...nope.

I very seldom read a book I dislike enough to go on a rampage, but when I do...it's always because the characters or the settings aren't fleshed out. I love being swept away into another world...take me there. That's truly all I need.

Love Triangles - Love Them
Love at First Sight - Heck Yeah
Soul Mates - Why Not
Murder and Mayhem - Love It
Paranormal - You Bet

  1. Heya. :) Like your answer! I agree about the whole backstory thing. I like to have that too, along with some believability. I hope you have a fantastic weekend. *hug*

  3. YES! Being able to believe a character and understand their actions, feelings, thoughts, is CRUCIAL. I read a book recently I would have LOVED if I could have made heards or tailes of the lead.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, following back :)

  5. Hopping through. I agree that believability is key. The best fantasies are those that I forget aren't real.

  6. Yup, I will always want to know WHY as well. If the author doesn't give me some kind of backstory, I'll be annoyed.

Thanks for stopping by, new follower.
I agree with wanting to know why a character can do something not just that they can.

  8. A backgroung to a chracter is very important plus it can build the tension in a book. A good answer.

  13. Couldn't agree with you more. To me, round characters are essential to a good story.

  14. I can see your point about unbelievable characters. It's hard to get into a story when you're so blown away by how preposterous the protag is.

  15. I agree with you there, I've read some books where the characters just mysteriously managed to do something or appeared somewhere else with no explanation as to how or why.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a great weekend. :D

  22. I have to say that I love to learn the back story. It usually is my favorite part of series--the book where you learn what happened to bring all of these events into play. It brings so much depth to the characters (imho). :)

I agree - if the characters aren't believable it might as well be a fairy tale.

  26. These books get me very agitated. I have to do a double take and flip pages so I could figure out what I missed. It's a waste time and I 100% agree with you!
